Healthcare Data Warehousing

DTA Associates approaches healthcare data warehousing with a focus on transforming organizational data into accessible information in order to drive patient experience, process, and quality improvement. We are passionately committed to making data and metrics trusted assets to the organization through standardization and transparency.

Customized Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)

The value an enterprise data warehouse provides is in supporting decision-makers with the information they need, when they need it, with confidence in the accuracy of the data. However, when organizations are working on compressed timelines and with limited resources, getting to the point of having useful data can be daunting. DTA Associates can help organizations get up and running quickly with a data warehouse that is both adaptable and highly scalable. Whether it is starting from scratch or enhancing an existing platform (such as Epic’s Caboodle Data Warehouse), we can help you turn your enterprise data warehouse into an essential knowledge asset in your organization.

Develop Internal Capability

At DTA, we strongly believe that every healthcare organization needs to develop internal capability in business intelligence and analytics not only to meet the requirements placed upon them by organizations such as CMS and state agencies, but also to succeed in an increasingly competitive market. Purchasing an off-the-shelf product will not solve your business intelligence and analytics problems long-term. You need to attract, develop, and retain highly-skilled staff to develop the analytics you need according to your strategy, not a vendor’s roadmap. DTA is experienced in developing high-performing data warehouse and BI teams through selecting and mentoring people who will help you build for the future.

Standard Measure Repository (SMaRT)

So many organizations struggle with the same issues related to corporate metrics, which is why we at DTA created SMaRt, the Standard Measure Repository. SMaRt is a tool that allows you to define all your metrics in one place, and then your reports and dashboards can all pull from the same place to ensure what shows up in your various business intelligence tools is consistent. Even better, the business logic for each measure isn’t hidden deep in the underlying code of a report somewhere, it is available for everyone to see. If you are tired of wondering “which definition of readmission rate is this?” or “who can answer questions about this metric?”, contact us to find out more about SMaRt.

Develop Actionable Predictive Analytics

DTA develops predictive models for organizations that are tailored to each organization’s unique workflow and patient population. The general process works as follows:

  • Research – Gather information and research on similar predictive models
  • Gather Clinical Feedback – Convene a group of people across disciplines (MD, RN, Case Manager, etc.) to brainstorm potential predictors
  • Generate Data Elements – Query data sources to pull each potential predictors into a table or extract file that the statistical modeling tool can use
  • Develop Model – Run potential predictors through a regression model to determine which elements are predictive, generating an overall risk score
  • Develop Operational Tools – Define the patient population and workflow, and then implement tools to operationalize the prediction model
  • Pilot, Rollout, and Use – Train care managers and others who will be using the tool
  • Monitor Model Validity – Monitor model validity over time and determine if/when to re-generate the model

Business Intelligence Tool Selection and Development

There is a wide array of tools on the market today that can display your information in useful and compelling ways. While these tools can look very similar in demos, they widely differ in what they can do and how easy they are to deploy. DTA can help you wade through all the choices out there to select the best business intelligence tool or tools for your organization. We work with you to understand your unique needs and internal capabilities and match those things to the functionality of each tool offering. And unlike many organizations out there, we aren’t financially (or otherwise) tied to any particular business intelligence solution, so we can help you find the best tools for your organization in an unbiased manner. Once you have selected a tool, if you need help getting up and running, we provide business intelligence development services as well!

Metadata Tool

DTA has a metadata tool (Business Intelligence Catalog) that allows organizations to track information about all of their reports, dashboards, metrics, and whatever else you can think of in a searchable repository to be used by technical staff and end-users alike. The metadata tool is highly customizable, and can be populated through a mix of automated and manual processes.

Other Ways we can Help

From a data infrastructure and planning perspective, DTA also provides assessments, recommendations, and road maps as it relates to Business Intelligence/Analytics Strategy and Healthcare Data Governance.

“DTA is able to use their real past experiences that helped us identify needs within our organization and develop a road map to accomplish a successful implementation.  This greatly compressed time to identify, purchase, and implement our Enterprise Data Warehouse infrastructure. DTA also has the ability to bridge the gap between management and very technical programming concepts and applications.”

“DTA is a true partner with our organization. The sharing of ideas, knowledge and experience has been invaluable. The goals are always clear and DTA has allowed us to grow so we can keep moving forward after the contract is complete.”
